Lesson 7: My School – There is / There are

Grammar Focus: There is / There are

We use There is and There are to talk about things in a place.

  • Use There is for one thing.

  • Use There are for more than one thing.

Examples:

  1. There is a library in my school.

  2. There is a teacher in the classroom.

  3. There are many students in the class.

  4. There are two computers in the room.

Important Rules: 

  • Use a / an with singular nouns.

  • Use are with plural nouns (add -s).

  • Do not say: ❌ There is many students

    Say: ✅ There are many students

Examples:

  1. There is a big school in my city.

  2. There is a library and a playground.

  3. There are many classrooms.

  4. There are friendly teachers.

  5. There is a computer in my class.
