Lesson 5: Food and Drinks – Countable and Uncountable Nouns

Grammar Focus: Countable / Uncountable (a / an / some)
There are two types of nouns:
1- Countable Nouns
These are things we can count.
one apple
two apples
a banana
We use:
a / an for one thing
-s for more than one
Examples:
I eat an apple.
She has two oranges.
2- Uncountable Nouns
These are things we cannot count one by one.
milk
water
rice
bread
We do NOT say: one milk ❌
We say: some milk ✅
Examples:
I drink some milk.
We have some rice.
Important Rules:
Use a / an with one countable noun.
Use some with uncountable nouns.
Add -s to countable nouns in plural.
Examples:
I eat an apple in the morning.
I drink some milk.
My mother cooks rice.
We have some bread at home.
She buys two bananas.

Writing Practice
- Write 5–7 sentences about yourself.
