Grammar Focus: Prepositions of Place (in, on, under, next to, behind, in front of)
We use prepositions of place to say where something is.
in → inside something
on → on the surface
under → below something
next to → beside
behind → at the back
in front of → before something
We usually use them with the verb to be (is / are).
Examples:
The book is on the table.
The cat is under the chair.
The school is next to my house.
The car is in front of the house.
Important Rules:
Use is with one thing.
Use are with more than one thing.
The book is on the table.

My room is next to the kitchen.
The bed is near the window.
