I live in a small city with my family.

My father is a teacher and my mother is a nurse.

They are kind and friendly.

I am happy at school. My best friend is Sam.

We are in the same class.

Today is Monday. We are ready for a new week.

Grammar: Verb "To Be" (am / is / are)

The verb to be is used to talk about identity, age, job, feelings, and place.

Forms:

  • I → am
  • He / She / It → is
  • You / We / They → are

Examples:

  1. I am a student.
  2. She is kind.
  3. They are friends.

Negative: Add not after the verb

  1. I am not tired.
  2. He is not at home.
  3. They are not late.

Short form:

  • is not → isn’t
  • are not → aren’t

Questions: Move the verb before the subject

  1. Am I late?
  2. Is she your friend?
  3. Are they ready?

Short answers:

  • Yes, she is. / No, she isn’t.
  • Yes, they are. / No, they aren’t.
